Perhaps you have to have some prior knowledge of the subject matter of this film in order to properly savor it. … I don’t contemplate so, but maybe I’m rotten. As a person, a human being, hearing the words of genuine human beings who are trying to sort through their feelings after a tragedy, I would have been moved had I known nothing of the death of Matthew Shepard (as it is, I knew very slight before viewing this movie) .

What initially attracted me to this film was the fact that it was an HBO production, and I’ve seen several quality HBO productions in the past. I’d heard a diminutive about the Matthew Shepard case, and I wanted to know more. So I saw the film.

First, this film isn’t really a documentary-it’s a dramatazation of interviews and conversations that members of a Current York theatre troupe conducted with citizens of Laramie, Wyoming These interviews served as the basis for the play “The Laramie Project.” It’s a diminutive distracting at first, because the film is shot in documentary-style and yet the people who are supposed to be citizens of the town are recognizable actors and actresses (such as Steve Buscemi and Christina Ricci) . And I wondered how considerable of the dialogue was true and how worthy was fictional. But once I got over those concerns, I became engrossed in the chronicle (after all, movies are fiction anyway) . And what a narrative. For those who don’t know, Matthew Shepard was a 21 year musty college student who was brutally beaten and left for slow in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. The young men who attacked him were Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney. Shepard was in a coma for a week before he died on October 12, 1998. Shepard was [homosexual], and his killers claimed that he’d made passes at them, and so they decided to drive him to the edge of town, tie him up, and beat him. To state him a lesson.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Laramie Project! Click Here

Whether Shepard learned his lesson or not is unknown, since he died soon after the attack. But the citizens of Laramie obvious seem to be learning something, and they want to talk about it. The townspeople who were interviewed are a mix of [homosexual] residents, college professors, college students, and outraged citizens. The young man who found Matthew Shepard, the Police Officer who was the first on the scene, a friend of Shepard’s named Romaine, and a local Catholic Priest are standouts. The emotions bustle the gamut from young people trying to reconcile what they’ve always been taught (that homosexuality is contemptible) with the message that it’s unprejudiced another lifestyle choice, to others who maintain that no one deserves to be beaten that way-but hey, Shepard shouldn’t have been hitting on those young men…A local pastor prays that Shepard had time in the last moments of his life to repent and turn to Christ, a local Priest calls citizens together for a candlelight vigil, and all the while the members of the theatre troupe portray the reactions of the townspeople as they themselves are touched and changed by what they explore.

Here we have people talking, people yelling, people laughing, people crying. Everyone has been affected in one design or another by the tragedy, and what they say as they struggle to achieve their feelings into words (and the emotions that are so compellingly portrayed by the actors and actresses here) get for a startling portrayal of human emotion. The sage is told not honest through words but through music, through facial expressions, through moments of silence that no words can hold. Section character search for, fragment “documentary,” fragment “message film,” “The Laramie Project” succeeds as worthy storytelling. In a word: Haunting. Apparently, it’s not for everyone. But I don’t spy why not.

The 1998 gratified abhor crime abolish of, Matthew Shepard, really distress many people around the world, including myself. The very fact that this sweet young man, so runt in height and weight, with an angelic face could be kidnapped by two idiot kids, tied to a spit rail wooden fence and pistol whipped and tortured until his skull was literally bashed with fractures, and then left there to die, tied to that fence for 18 hours in the reach freezing temperatures until a bicyclist came upon him. Matthew was at this time, in a coma, and for 4 days the world watched, waited, and hoped he would recover. Matthew did not. He died October 12th, 1998 in the hospital. This film, through a series of massive interviews with the residents of this town, is done in a documentary style, with the actors repeating the words smooth in those interviews. It is very well made, very distinguished and also very very gloomy. They filmed this in the steady town. You glean to examine the inside of the bar Matt was in before his abduction, as well as the college he attended, the rail fence he was tied to (THANK GOD NO Assassinate IS RE-CREATED HERE), as well as the true courtroom the trial took station at.Hopefully, people who are homophobic can explore by watching this film, people are people–no matter if they are of a different speed or sexual orientation. We all need to stand UNITED, wait on space laws to include zero tolerance of happy dislike crimes.Matthew Shepard did not deserve to die. If anything grand can near from such an harmful thing that happened, let’s hope this movie can start some eyes and we can end the disapprove and innocent people being murdered.

Brilliantly directed by Christopher Nolan, who also wrote the screenplay based on a short legend by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, this film had to be a spacious challenge for all. The word “memento” means “remember” in Latin, and the record is about Leonard, so traumatized by a blow to the head after his wife’s rape and slay, that he has lost his short-term memory. He’s out for revenge and is looking for the killer, but, although he remembers his life with his wife and who he is, he cannot remember anything that has happened since. He therefore takes Polaroid shots of everyone he meets and writes notes on them. And he also tattoos things he wants to remember all over his body. The role calls out for an exceptional actor and Guy Pearce certainly does rise to the occasion. I found myself drawn to him, identifying with his condition, and joining him in his struggle to represent to the world.

The memoir unfolds backwards, an unique story technique that is tricky to employ. We gaze a scene and judge we understand. And then there is another scene that has happened prior to it, and it totally changes our perception of what is going on. Purposely, it is confusing. And purposely, there are moments of clarity where it all fits together only to become even more confusing in the next scene. Carrie Ann Moss plays a femme fatal and, as we procure to know her, we are not quite certain what her motives are. Joe Pantolino is cast as in the role of Leonard’s buddy, and we are constantly confused as to whether he is friend or foe.

I sat there fascinated as this complicated location unfolded, enjoying the mastery in which the director led me down different avenues of view and also introduced questions about the proper issues keen. By the destroy, I was absolutely distinct of nothing at all, except that I had been traveling on a roller coaster of an experience that didn’t have any easy answers. While I tend to want films to have a beginning, middle and kill, and a account line that is easy to follow, this an exception to the rule. I definitely recommend to those who are willing to peep this current film, which is certainly one of a kind.

The only film that I can judge of that comes even finish to the ingenuity of Memento is The Usual Suspects. Like that plan underappreciated classic, Memento gives you the ending immediately, and then spends the rest of its time showing you how it got there. Each scene offers clues and various revelations–Leonard’s tattoos, why he writes what he does on Natalie’s and Teddy’s pictures, what happened to his wife, Leonard’s job before “the incident”–each of which are thrilling mini-narratives in themselves.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Memento! Click Here

The acting is first rate. Guy Pearce, best known as “the one who wasn’t Russell Crowe in L.A. Confidential”, is Leonard, a character who will intrigue you, remove your sympathy, and might even fear you by the extinguish. Joe Pantoliano’s Teddy will have you debating his intentions towards Leonard for days afterwards. The precise acting coup, however, is fellow Matrix alum Carrie Anne Moss–her performace as Natalie will build you esteem her, abominate her, and obtain you fiercely protective of her.

The movie can only be watched on DVD. Hold the remote handy as you’ll want to cease every now and then, if only to read Leonard’s tattoos for various clues. After watching the movie, be distinct to check out Otnemem in the Special Features fraction for newspaper articles, pictures, journal entries, and psychiatric reports on Mementos intelligent characters. They will aid confirm what you believe happened in the movie. DVD also offers the impish option of choosing to study the movie backwards (or would it be watching the movie forward? ) . You will definitely contemplate the option after watching the movie. I haven’t done it yet, but I can’t wait to study the finish that it has on the movie.

This movie is worth the indispensable hype. If you enjoyed movies like The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, The Usual Suspects, Seven, Fight Club, and Gloomy City (some of my personal faves), then Memento will be the crown of your DVD collection!

This is a very obedient DVD however containing 9 Goofy shorts made in the 1940’s and 1950’s. it includes several of Goofy’s “how to” series where Goofy takes share in the demonstration and a narrrator does the deliver over. These include: How to Dance, How to Swim, how to Fish, and The Art of Skiing. These are all quite comical.

It’s worth the $12 or so but any Goofy fan should try and win the Complete Goofy site if possible.

Goofy is hilarious. when I archaic to to gape him alot as a kid on Disney I couldn’t succor but laugh at his type of antics for humor. it was so uninteresting it was droll. he really touches kids too . even in his short cartoons. I would recommend everyone give Goofy a chance. young or primitive. you’re never too young or too stale for cartoons. savor what you will

Ok before I open, let me explain something: Unlike the reviewers before me, I have actually SEEN this movie, so my review is not based on the graphic recent of which the movie is based, nor what the movie might be like based on who’s leisurely the making of it. I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE. Now that thats out the scheme, onto the wonderful stuff.

I know a lot of Batman, Superman, and Batman/Superman fans were holding their breath on this one. With all classic the DC Silly character movies coming out lately (some of them not as worthy as others) it was reasonable to buy that “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” the movie could have gone either blueprint. Well reliable thing for the real fan gross, this was definitely a hit. I can say I am more then cheerful with how this came out, and I have every blueprint of buying this DVD and watching it again the day it comes home with me.

One thing is abundantly positive when watching this movie: WB Entertainment, and more importantly, DC Comics actually LISTENS to their fans. One of my (and others) biggest fears in this was that we were going to be hearing some sub-par whine acting for the main characters eager, i.e. Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor. As with past offerings from WB Entertainment (“Superman: Doomsday” for example) we got some ancient casting for the voices of Lex and Sups. That alone detracts greatly from the overall enjoyment of the movie. With Public Enemies however, we have the best voices ever cast for the starring 3 roles: Tim Daily as Superman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. For those who could give two flips about these guys, they are the same voices from the favorite shows Justice League Unlimited, Batman The Keen Series, and Superman the Enchanting Series.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Superman/Batman: Public Enemies! Click Here

On top of estimable deliver acting, the animation is crisp, intriguing and fair humdrum pleasing. Again, faithful to fan feedback, the artists from Justice League Unlimited seem to have had their hands in this project, because the art is glowing powerful the same (which is by no means a awful thing), and it looks titanic. Almost straight from the silly.

Speaking of which, as far as the record goes, retain in mind while watching this that its an adaptation to the comical. That being said however, the movie stays remarkably faithful to the yarn told in the humorous. Minus a few altered frames, scenes and situations, its like reading the droll all over again, except with no imagination needed to indulge in it. The fable in general is a very splendid one, highlighting Batman and Superman’s friendship and giving you a peep into how deep it really goes. Granted, you glean more of that in the funny then you do in the movie, but the movie compensates for the lack of inner dialogue with top-notch script writing, chubby of the comic exchanges between Sups and Bats and emotional moments and outburst we know and cherish from our well-liked caped heroes.

This is a titanic movie, and you don’t have to have read the laughable first in order to indulge in it. Even the review value is moderately high, I can and WILL be watching this again as soon as I can, and some more times after that. This is worth notice, grab it and savor a motion relate work of art.

Peace

So I watched Superman/Batman:Public Enemies twice in one day after I got it. And I will support this review short as most of the main points have been hit by the people who reveiewed this already (at least the ones that waited till it came out) . So here’s my wreck down and the waste will be final comments.

STORY:

It was adpated from Jeph Loeb’s first arc on the ongoing silly. Appreciate it or disapprove it, but it was a very faithful adaptation, streamlining something that was basically a status up for the subsequent arcs as well as Infinite Crisis. It was humorous, and balls to the wall, and the only gripe I had was not explaining why the Robot was a better choice than Luthor’s missles (Reply, robot was made of Metallo, not the guy, the alloy.) But hey all and all I liked what they did.

Characters (bid and portrayal) :

WHOA! Okay I read the comics and almost forgot the laundry list of vilains who approach out the cracks for the bounty. Batman and Superman were pitch perfect and their banter was spacious after seeing them so serious with each other all the time in Justice League and JLU. Tim Daly returning for Superman was mammoth to have, though I’m one of the few that feel George Newburn’s performance as the character is honest as pleasant. Kevin Conroy and Clancy Brown however are the quintessential Batman and Lex Luthor respectively. Props to getting CCH Pounder to return as Amanda Waller even if the charatcer model looked horrendous. Lastly the supporting charatcers were enormous. However I wonder why so noteworthy fuss was made about LeVar “Reading Geordi LeForge’s Rainbow” Burton as Murky Lightning when he had one line. Killer Frost was a throwaway villain that had more to say. *Sigh* Wasted talent.

ART AND ANIMATION:

Again based on the source material, the art style took a muscular turn and was fully mimicing Ed McGuiness’ style where every male looks like a “Masters of the Uninverse” figure. I personally care for his style and always though it would translate well to the cloak. I was mostly factual. They made Superman eye too young, and I contemplate it’s because of the eyes. McGuiness does the squinty survey better than most, and we stare this in Captain Marvel’s manufacture, and in the comics Superman has the same examine sometimes. That plus the cheekbone line makes him peek a bit older. Well probably out of awe of backlash (last time they establish lines on his face people said he looked too extinct, and in “Doomsday” he looked even older) they elft those lines out and he looks too young. Everyone else in my notion looked glorious. Okay Powergirl’s eyes bugged me too but I was distracted by something else.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I liked it. It was a stout action flick, and didn’t need too considerable character development. It’s Superman and Batman, if you don;t know who they are why are you even picking up te movie. It’s a buddy flick with wall to wall action. My biggest dispute is it felt rushed. At 67 minutes it’s like 15 minutes shorter than previous releases and could have really benefitted from them. That said if you like the characters and you like action this is worth it.

AFTERTHOUGHT:

The preview for the next upcoming titillating feature, Jusitce League: Crisis on Two Earths was spacious. Yes I know after Public Enemies going wait on to recent voices will suck but they got some wonderful ones. Ticket Harmon makes a splendid salubrious Superman, I’m on the fence for Billy Baldwin as Batman (needs to be grittier), James Woods does an amazingly devious and bent Owlman, and Gena Torres was astronomical as SuperWoman. Hope you luxuriate in!

Many anime movies based on a TV series are basically like extremely long episodes, though often with with better animation and music.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bleach Movie 1: Memories of Nobody! Click Here

And such is the case with the first movie based on the hit anime series, “Bleach: Memories of Nobody.” It’s not a perfect movie adaptation — several regulars are reduced to brief cameos — but it is graced with some extremely solid action sequences, ravishing animation, a solid mix of comedy and tragedy, and a nice small storyline for the perpetually stressed-out Ichigo.

After disposing of a Hollow, Ichigo and Rukia encounter puffy creatures with pointed red heads. When the things launch getting pushy, a peculiar Shinigami girl named Senna appears and wipes many of them out.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bleach Movie 1: Memories of Nobody! Click Here

Turns out these things are Blank (amnesiac) souls from the Valley of Screams in the Severed World, and the only map to secure rid of ‘em is to get the Memory Rosary, a being that contains all their memories. As Ichigo struggles to support an peek on the flighty Senna, he is charged with finding the Memory Rosary and protecting it from the mysterious man who is leading the Blanks.

Guess who the Memory Rosary is. I’ll give you a hint: it’s someone not in the regular cast.

Anyway, a bunch of Soul Reapers are dispatched to bring the Memory Rosary assist with them, only to have her snatched away by a exclusive man named Ganryu, who has a grudge against the Soul Reapers. Ichigo and Rukia survey the portal into the Severed World — but there’s only an hour before the worlds of the living and the lifeless collide, with devastating results. And even with the aid of all his Soul Reaper friends, Ichigo may not be able to prevail…

Anyone not familiar with Tite Kubo’s “Bleach” series will probably be utterly lost during “Memories of Nobody,” especially given the expansive cast of Top-notch Guys who expose up without introduction. The entire movie plays out like a very long anime filler episode, but with a lot more fresh characters, villains, and introducing an entire dimension between the Soul Society and the living world. And an accidental Ichigo-Kon kiss.

Fortunately “Memories of Nobody” does a worthy job preserving the flavor of the “Bleach” anime series. It starts off rather lightweight and a bit talk-heavy until Ganryu decides to display himself, leading into a clash between the Soul Reapers and his defective tiny minions. Those rapid-fire battles are fabulous — mercurial, lethal and paunchy of special powers (including Ichigo riding on Renji’s zanpakuto) . And the climax is simply spectacular — a bloody savage duel between Ganryu and Ichigo on a substantial leafless tree, even as the Severed World starts falling apart.

And the writers strike a generous balance in “Memories of Nobody” — we have acrobatic battles, flashy powers, a bit of Hollow-slaying, and some poignant moments for Ichigo and Senna. Fortunately amid all this serious stuff, there’s some humor as well — including a running gag about ambulance crews trying to resuscitate Ichigo’s soulless body, which he has a terrible habit of simply dropping any former space. I’ve always wanted to spy that happen.

Even the animation has been souped-up here. It’s a slight more detailed and defined than animation for a weekly TV indicate, and there are some heavenly visuals — sprays of maple leaves, the nighttime lights of Karakura, and the explosive battles between Soul Reapers. And the soundtrack — particularly the violin solo — is simply ravishing.

The characterization is one faded dwelling, though. Most of the main cast — including Uryu, Chad, Orihime and all of Urahara’s diminutive gang — are reduced to standing on a bridge waiting for Ichigo to advance relieve. And somehow Ganryu is never quite compelling — we never come by out why he was exiled, or what motivations he has beyond wanting revenge on the Soul Society.

But this is a well-written account for Ichigo Kurosaki, — his gruff, slightly awkward personality is captured beautifully, as well as his iron-clad determination to protect anybody he’s become fond of. Senna is a character so completely flaky that she makes Orihime peek like Eeyore, but she does manage to be likable and good-hearted despite that.

“Bleach: Memories of Nobody” is not quite as reliable as it could have been, but it’s a solid adventure for Ichigo and his assorted Soul Reaper friends. An provocative, fast-paced puny meander.

Bleach is the yarn of Ichigo Kurosaki, an obstinate high-school boy who became imbued with the powers of a Soul Reaper. Soul Reapers approach from the afterlife, an alternate dimension known as The Soul Society and it is their job to police our world, bring peace to errant souls, and waste those aid go wrathful, becoming massive soul-devouring monstrosities known as Hollows. So basically, the them is a blurring of the line between life and afterlife. It’s chock chubby of action, sports a cast of characters so massive I can’t hold most of their names at any given time, and an extremely complex history and series of rules that it operates by. These things form “Bleach” one of the outstanding ongoing anime series, but they also create it extremely hard on unusual viewers. “Memories of Nobody” does as capable a job as can be expected in welcoming Bleach newcomers, but it will mostly appeal to fans of the television series as an sharp and charming standalone addition to its canon.

The star of the display is a girl named Senna, who Ichigo and Rukia encounter while investigating a creepy phenomena of faceless apparitions gathering in the world of the living. While humans can inspect none of this, it is a dreadful omen of things to advance and while the Soul Society researches on their demolish, Ichigo and Rukia have to attempt to sort things out in the world of the living. Senna is easily among the most instantly lovable characters in the Bleach pantheon. She embodies all that is carefree and charming about anime characters. But while she jerks Ichigo around, the Soul Society comes to a staggering conclusion about her and sends several mighty Captains to acquire her into custody. A typically good-hearted and hard-headed Ichigo resists, but before a fight breaks out several remarkable and mysterious warriors appear to claim Senna as well. The ruin result is a potential cataclysmic collision between the worlds of the living and the tedious, eradicating both. Bleach fans, inaugurate your engines.

As with most anime films based on ongoing series’, the chronicle is place up not to affect existing continuity in any diagram. However, “Memories of Nobody” makes for a surprisingly poignant story. Bleach usually keeps the tone fairly light and tends to focus on the humor and idiosyncrasies of the characters as well as the perpetually escalating multiple plotlines. Here, the focus is almost entirely on Ichigo and Senna and their account produces some surprising results. The opinion of the blank souls combining and searching for lost memories was both captivating and tragic. The action is stunning sweet here with ban-kais (considerable attacks musty conservatively but spectacularly in the series) being unleashed left-and-right. Several of the Soul Society’s finest compose appearances in the climax and expose their stuff. Modern viewers can either luxuriate in the discover candy or utilize that time saying “who’s that? And that? What was that thing she unprejudiced did? ” and the like. Lots of diminutive chilly character moments -including one between Rukia and her brother, who was once intent on executing her- will be lost on them, but fans will cheer. The ending was extremely emotional -though a bit confusing- and left me glorious shellshocked which is what really caught me off guard about this film. I was expecting fluff and got some genuinely gripping drama. Not too shabby.

“Memories of Nobody” is a certain must-see for fans of the anime, but newcomers would be advised to glance “Bleach” at least through Season 2 to know what the hell is going on a lot of the time. Fans of Chad, Uryu, and Orehime: sorry. Better luck next time.

Our family has really enjoyed these movies – from the four year conventional all the diagram up to Mom and Dad. The material is spacious, but easy to understand (particularly with the ample utilize of computer graphics and artistic sketches) .

My only caution would be that there were a few photos from an airplane shatter into the Empire space Building in the 1940s that are a exiguous graphic for young children. I was very mad to learn that these are coming out on DVD this topple.

I really like these DVDs. As a teacher the DVDs can be shown to students, plus you fetch activities on the DVD and a book you can print. This was made so that you could actually consume it with today’s kids. I am a teacher and I esteem these.

I had heard a lot of dreadful things and dreadful reviews about this movie. I was suprised when I watched it that it was as ample as it was. I belief Timothy Olyphant did a proper job and that the girl who played his fancy interest was also reliable and HOT. The guy that plays T-Bag on the TV expose Prison Atomize was also superb. I have never played this game but I conception the account was magnificent solid. It kind of reminded me of The Bourne Identity as he is a trained spruce assassin from a status that churns them out and he has flash backs of superb and terrible things.

Anyway, the action rocked and it was spirited and inviting beginning to extinguish. It was stunning salubrious and fun to notice.

Yet another game to movie adaptation, but this one has a major inequity. It’s actually stunning damn frosty.

Timothy Olyphant fits perfectly into the role of Agent 47, an orphan who is taken in and trained by an agency that trains children to be the most stealthy and deadly hitmen in the world. Agent 47 is the best of the best of all the Hitmen raised and trained by “The Organization.” He is called in to originate on a hit on the Russian President Mikhail Belicoff, however the hit is a setup and 47 finds himself on the hasten from Interpol & The Russian Secret Police.

While on the rush, 47 endeavours to pick up revenge and secure the truth about who place him up and why. This unravels a tangled web of lies and deceipt as one by one he kills those who have done him execrable, including those who are also members of “The Organisation.”

During his creep he comes across an unlikely companion in Nika Boronina who we arrive to observe gives 47 emotions and feelings that he’s never encountered before.

This is a really noble movie and something that at times keeps so stop to the game that you approach to mediate this is a game in itself. Timothy Olyphant plays 47 incredibly and although 47 is conventionally an emotionless character but within the movie we are given emotion that is being held wait on. That may be a bit of an oxymoron but the draw in which Olyphant portrays it is extraordinary as it’s a character that has all this emotion built up inside but is trying to maintain it assist.

The action, dialogue and cinematography of this film I found to be incredibly colorful. It has moments in it that you can identify to the game and there’s one point in particular which the game itself is given a nod. 47 breaks through the window of a hotel room and it cuts to a vision of kids playing the video game hitman.

Overall this was a very, very honorable film which I have to admit I didn’t really have high hopes for in the beginning. I am gay to say my preconceptions were changed within the first 5 minutes into the movie and I am determined to recognize it again.

You should check it out whether you’re a fan of the game or not, it’s smooth a beautiful special allotment.

I remember watching this series on A&E television succor in the 1980’s. At the time I knew practically nothing about WW I. This note is very consuming and gets 5 stars for being complete without overwhelming the viewer. Each segment is about 22 minutes in length which made a half hour prove on A&E with commericals. It is even better without them. The reveal takes in all areas of the war including the failed British and Australian invasion of the Daranelles and the anxiety on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. Robert Ryan’s narration is suitable and his being an actor only adds to his narration abilities. If you want to really salvage a valid concept of WW 1 and it’s causes and results, this is the dvd plot for you.

The Complete Record of World War Iis a comprehensive gawk at The War To Ruin All Wars. Produced by CBS television in the early 1960s and narrated by actor Robert Ryan, this unflinching 26 episode series rates legal up with Victory At Sea as an early television war documentary. From the political intrigues that led nations to war, to life in the trenches, to the first air battles, all the draw to the unlit slay, television impartial doesn’t collect great better than this. World War 1 was the first war able to be truly documented on motion camera. I’m happy this documentary was produced while the then almost fifty year musty film was composed viable. Who knows if it unexcited even exists today. Highly recommended for history and war buffs.

Why is Geena Davis an Oscar-winner? Behold this flick; you won’t need to ask that again. Her sensitive portrayal of Dottie Hinson highlights the many facets of Davis’ talents as an actress. I loved watching a portion of history (however dramatized) which took location during my early childhood. Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell were surprisingly trustworthy as the loudmouth-but-secretly-caring-and-feeling Mae and Doris. You’ll topple in treasure with Ann Cusack’s “Shirley Baker”, and terrible, plain but super-star batter Marla Hooch is someone you honest gotta root for. Tom Hanks gives us his usual delicate performance as the arrogant, boozy and cynical (but in for some surprises) coach Jimmy Dugan. The chauvinistic/sexist plan the female players were treated (professional baseball in a cocktail waitress costume!? ) by management, the public and the press (“…after all, they’re only girls.”) will incense many viewers, but it’s the plot things actually were then. For the movie to be made any other design would be less than truth. The map that the steady Dotties, Kits, Maes, Dorises and the others dealt with those attitudes surely contributed to social change and enlightenment about the abilities of the female half of our population. A compliment, also, to the casting people; where did they accept the older look-alikes? Notably, Lynn Cartwright as “Older Dottie” and Eugenia McLin as “Older Ellen Sue”. This movie is for everyone. Comedy with poignant drama. If you like teary endings, bring the Kleenex. The nostalgia scenes will originate the travel. Sizable, mountainous movie.

A League of their Maintain was one of the best movies I’ve ever had the pleasure to scrutinize. I had seen it years ago and recently bought my maintain copy of it. This movie is one of the best that Penny Marshall has ever directed. The casting was well-behaved. Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell were perfect as street-wise, but loveable May and Doris! Geena Davis did a fantastic job playing Dottie Henson, who had a top-notch savor for the game, yet had responsibilities and priorities that were more critical to her. Lori Petty was spacious as Kit, Dottie’s microscopic sister who fought so hard to pick up out from under her sister’s shadow. Marla Hooch, what a vast character!! Evelyn and her small boy Stillwell “Angel” will sustain you in smiling all the time you want to bean him with a baseball bat. Ellen Sue, Helen, Betty Spaghetti, I feel like I know them all!! And Tom Hanks plays one of his best roles ever, as Jimmy Duggan, an ex-ball player turned coach. Not too thrilled with the job of coaching “girls”, he accepts the job and finally comes to respect them as a team and as baseball players. I consider one of the best parts of the movies is when the ball players reunite after 40 years and the casting of the older woman to play the parts of the aging ball players is a masterpiece. It is distinguished how these older “look-alikes” were all brought into this movie. This is a movie worth watching, owning and recommending. Very few near along in a lifetime that provide so grand noble, determined entertainment, but this movie has it all. I recommend it highly!
